It's the mid year review and time to check in on our Phil Temperton Cup contenders.
First up in the Headmaster's office is Nerang Bull's first grade coach, Te Ari Mahuri, whose chargers are flying high at the top of the table.
GCDRU: If you had to give your season so far a report card grade, what would it be and why?
Te Ari Mahuri (TM): I would have to give ourselves a B or C at the moment.
I wasn’t too happy about our performance over the weekend against the Knights, but a win is a win.
There's plenty of room for improvement.
GCDRU: What's been the standout performance or moment of your season to date and why?
TM: The standout moment for us would have been the start of preseason and the buy in we had from the start.
Then, moment two would have been when we got pumped by Colleges in Round One - they humbled us after a hard preseason.
GCDRU: Where has the biggest improvement in your side come from since the start of the season?
TM: The biggest improvement would have to be our depth within the club.
We’ve had a fair few injuries at our club but we make sure everyone is on the same page so when we do lose a player, it is a 'next man up' mentality.
GCDRU: What's the one area your side needs to tighten up in these last few rounds?
TM: Our recovery.
Our boys need to understand how important it is to do the right things to get ourselves ready for the following week.
That and top ups - improving skills, conditioning and our mental game.
GCDRU: Which of your player/s do you think will be most influential in the run home and why?
TM: Everyone at our club will be influential for our run home.
I can’t single out any one player as everyone plays a roll.
It may sound corny, but we aren’t the club champs just because of first grade. It takes a village
