A breakout season for the Alleygators has them looking in good shape for a post-season birth.

Coaching Supremo Simon Rezo breaks down their turnaround in 2026, as he reflects on the moments that have defined their season.

GCDRU: If you had to give your season so far a report card grade, what would it be and why?

Simon Rezo (SR): I'd give our season a B+ to this point.

There's definitely scope for that to move into the A range over the coming weeks as our group continues to develop.

The most pleasing aspect has been the outstanding player engagement and the number of registered players enjoying our program, with our on-field performances and results improving as we continue to learn and grow.

GCDRU: What's been the standout performance or moment of your season to date and why?

SR: The standout moments have been the handful of Saturdays where all four of our senior teams, including our women's side, have come away with wins.

Building genuine connection across the entire playing group has been a major focus for us, so being able to celebrate success together as one club has been incredibly rewarding.

GCDRU: Where has the biggest improvement in your side come from since the start of the season?

SR: The biggest improvement has been our ability to execute our game plan with greater confidence and consistency.

The boys are growing as rugby players each week, and their improved fitness has allowed us to play with better tempo, maintain our defensive work rate and execute our style of rugby for longer periods.

We have a young group and this is what is rewarding to see.

GCDRU: What's the one area your side needs to tighten up in these last few rounds?

SR: Discipline is an area we're constantly chasing because it's such a controllable part of the game.

Our leadership group has driven great buy-in from the players, but we know there's always room to improve and we want to be recognised as one of the most disciplined teams in the competition.

GCDRU: Which of your player/s do you think will be most influential in the run home and why?

SR: With the game plan the boys have bought in to and taken ownership of, its all-in on who will be the most influential.

We acknowledge our captain Tom Bodman who is on his last ride before retiring so we're embracing that journey with him also.
