Gold Coast District Rugby Union (GCDRU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nik Mitchell and Phil Bamber as casual board members for 2025.

The two appointments bring fresh perspectives and diverse expertise to the organisation as it continues to strengthen rugby's presence across the Gold Coast region.

Nik Mitchell: Young Leader with Deep Rugby Roots

Nik Mitchell brings a wealth of playing experience coupled with coaching and refereeing credentials. Having represented North Queensland Brolgas, Queensland U15 and U19 squads, and the U16 Australian Barbarians, Mitchell understands the pathway from grassroots to elite rugby.

"I firmly believe in its power to unite communities, foster teamwork, and impart essential life skills such as discipline, respect, and resilience," Mitchell said.

Currently studying accounting and working as a junior accountant, Mitchell aims to apply his analytical skills to rugby administration while focusing on youth development.

"My focus will be on creating more opportunities for young players to develop their skills while ensuring that the sport remains accessible and inclusive for everyone," he added.

Phil Bamber: Strategic Vision and Community Focus

Phil Bamber joined the Gold Coast rugby community after relocating from overseas just over a year ago, finding connection through the sport.

"Anyone who's been involved in rugby will talk about the strong sense of connection it creates. Rugby is unique in how it brings people together and provides a platform for lifelong friendships and memories," Bamber explained.

With professional expertise in strategy, culture, and development, Bamber sees significant growth potential for rugby on the Gold Coast.

"Rugby has a huge opportunity to expand its impact in the coming years, especially on the Gold Coast. With major events on the horizon, more people in Australia and the region will be talking about rugby than ever before," he said.

GCDRU welcomes both Phil and Nik to the Board.
