Returning stars and an Australian schoolboy representative are just some of the reasons the Cyclones U17 Boys will be garnering attention at this weekend's State Champs.
We chatted with Coach Jonny Bentley to understand how the lads can put the pressure aside and deliver for the GC on the big stage.
Jonny Bentley (Coach): The squad has a nice combo of size, pace and engine.
If the guys can gel then they will be tough to play against at Ballymore this week.
Coach: The biggest challenge has been getting the group together to be honest.
They have so many other sporting options which is great, but it hard caused our prep to be a little disrupted. The last week we’ve had a couple of good sessions after the North tourney where we some mixed performances but learnt plenty.
They key lessons were how crucial possession is in 7s, and being patient with the ball in attack.
Coach: It’s been a short prep so trying to get a group of really good individuals to work as a team, to connect with each other and base our game on effort and good energy.
Coach: Try and attack more than we defend…it’s always a harder game without the ball!!!
Coach: Dylan Terblanche was player of the tournament last year and he’ll be exciting to watch again and there’s a few other exciting talents in the group.
That said, it's hard to go past Aussie Schoolboy 15s rep Kobe Nouanrasy who will captain the side and bring great leadership qualities to the group as well as having a great skillset and IQ for 7s.
