Well, what an exciting time for Rugby. There has certainly been lots of Rugby going on around the Gold Coast, Queensland and worldwide with the Rugby World Cup down to the last two teams.

The quarter final matches were nail biting and South Africa certainly know how to win the tight matches.

Don’t miss this weekend’s match:

All Blacks v Springboks. Date: Sunday 29th October Where: Stade de France, Paris. When: 5am (AEST).

The Springboks with their “Bomb Squad” an interesting nickname the reporters and fans have given their group of impact players who are renowned for their ability to finish matches in explosive, match-winning fashion.

While in contrast you have the All Blacks mixing it up, using their strengths and combating their weaknesses by quick movement by hand or boot around the field.

Contrasting styles….

Hopefully, a great spectacle of rugby. It should be a cracker of a game and hopefully the man in the middle referee Wayne Barnes does not have too much influence.

Good luck to both teams.

While closer to home, various tournaments and Rugby 7 competitions have happened or will be occurring in around the Gold Coast and Queensland in the next couple of weeks and months.

Numerous players, schools, clubs, associations, and groups are involved or have been involved from around the Gold Coast District Rugby Union.

Some of the tournaments that players will have been involved in include:

  • All Saints Q7s 10th October
  • 2023 Santos All Schools 7s at Albany Creek - 21st and 22nd November
  • GCDRU’s own Goldlock 7s at Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators 28th October and the Gold Coast 7s at Bond University 28th and 29th October.
  • BrisVegas 7s Brisbane - 3rd and 4th November 7th Annual tournament 2023.
  • Queensland State 7s and Oceania Rugby 7s Ballymore -11th and 12th November
  • Global Youth 7s Gold Coast - 9th and 10th December

Exciting for Rugby, great for the players, coaches, and managers. Good luck with the competitions with plenty of lifelong friendships forged in these competitions.

To GCDRU Operations Manager congratulations with your acceptance in the Canterbury Crusaders Leadership program. A Canterbury Crusaders Leadership scholarship award winner.

Enjoy the PD and hopefully this can be one of many experiences for GCDRU administrators, coaches, and managers across the Gold Coast District in the future.

Plenty of learnings to be gained, connections and likeminded people to discuss Rugby Union.

Yours in Rugby,

Jed Hogan
